Germany plays host to a wonderful selection of cities that are worth further exploration. From the medieval history of Hamburg to the mix of old and new in Munich, there is no doubt that Germany has some incredible cities that are worthy of a weekend break at the very least.

But let’s leave these two cities behind and concentrate on Koln instead. This is the German name for the fourth biggest city in the country. It has plenty of attractions and there is a lot to do while you’re there too, so it’s best to plan some of your desired activities in advance if you can.

Number one on your list should be the zoo. You will get to see thousands of different animals and they’re all in different areas, such as the Aquarium and the Primeval Forest. If you’re visiting the city with your children they will love seeing every part of the zoo and enjoying a full day out there.

If you’re up for something more unusual, try the Unsicht Bar – translated literally as the Invisible Bar. This might sound like an odd name for a restaurant but the idea is that you eat your food in the dark. It sounds odd but it brings all your other senses to the fore and gives you a dining experience you’ll never forget.

Of course, many cities have their cathedral. This city is no different. It is a magnificent structure and no matter where you are in the city’s streets you should be able to see it looming above you in one direction or another. It’s an amazing sight and one you will no doubt appreciate.

If you know anything at all about this German city you will know that the Rhine River flows directly through the middle of it. This makes the river as much a part of the entire experience as anything else. Take the opportunity to wander along some of the river banks on either side to see different views of the city and get a feel for its history.

Finally there is the chance to see more of the streets in this city without your feet hurting. Grab the opportunity to jump in a rickshaw, known locally as the ricksha, and let the cyclist ahead of you take the strain. There are dedicated tours you can take on these bikes as well, giving you the chance to see Koln, better known to the English as Cologne , up close and personal.

There is no doubt that Cologne is one of the highlights of the range of German cities you could visit. Whenever you decide to go there will be a whole host of activities and delights awaiting you.
