If you carry a lot of sporting gear around in your car with you, it can be hard finding a new car that allows you enough space to do so without breaking the bank. However, there are a few models on the market that could be just what you’re looking for.

For instance, the Toyota Yaris offers a surprising amount of space for such a fairly compact vehicle. The Sedan version of the model may look like a small car, but it is actually surprisingly large on the inside with the boot having an impressive 475 litres of capacity. For even more flexibility and to extend cargo room, the rear seats on all Yaris models tumble forward and down with a one-touch action, creating a flat cargo area for extra luggage or shopping.

The hatchback version of the Yaris actually offers a massive 737 litres of capacity with the rear seats down, which means that all those visits to your local golf club can now be a whole lot easier. The 60:40 split rear seats in all models allow you to secure long objects like skis, while still leaving enough room for up to two passengers.

Another car that might be worth considering is the Skoda Octavia. Launched in 1996, the Octavia was the car that finally persuaded buyers to take Skoda seriously after the manufacturer found itself as the butt of many jokes for years. Based on the Volkswagen Golf, it was conservative, capacious, capable and a huge success. Equally impressive is its boot capacity. This was a renowned strength of the old Octavia and the boot volume of newer models has grown by 36 litres. With the rear seats in place the capacity is 560 litres, which grows to a massive 1350 litres when the split/fold rear seats are folded down, providing plenty of room for even the most avid sports enthusiast!
The Suzuki Kizashi represents one of the best cars the Japanese manufacturer has offered to date. A mixture of superb driving dynamics, good looks and refined interior comfort justify these rave reviews, and for those people looking for boot space, the Kizashi has an impressively large 461 litre boot capable of carrying four golf bags or one large and two medium size suitcases.

The Honda Civic has been renowned for being a reliable small car and the Civic Si model is no exception. The versatility of this particular Civic puts it in a class of its own. Lift the hatch to reveal 415 litres of unobstructed space, which is enough for 3 golf bags! If you fold down the rear seats, load space increases to 1,282 litres (to the window line).
Finally, the trendy new Holden VE Sportwagon has all the practicality of a traditional wagon, but with more boot space and at the same time delivering superior ride and handling qualities. There is 895 litres of boot space, which is enough for even the largest sports equipment and up to a staggering 2000 litres of cargo room when the rear seats are folded down!
All cars often experience problems which require repairs or maintenance; such as windscreen repair, ignition problems, leaks, or simply a dead battery. However, if you choose a car that has a large enough boot space that can transport all your sporting equipment you will have one less car issue to worry about in future.
