The most eastern island in the Carribean, Barbados is also one of the most developed and is situated in an ideal location just outside of the hurricane belt. Home to limestone hills, plantations and lush green landscapes the inland of the island is home to some truly gorgeous sights, and the idyllic coastland that wraps around it is similarly picturesque. Add to this the beaches that litter the island, and it’s easy to see why the island has been hugely popular with tourists for quite some time.

However, it’s not just the "standard" tourists that the destination is popular with – many celebrities visit the island year after year hoping to take advantage of its idyllic location and favourable temperatures. Well-known faces who have been known to regularly visit the island include Mick Jagger, David Beckham, Oprah Winfrey, Brad Pitt and singer Rihanna, who was brought up in Barbados and regularly returns to recharge her batteries.

When visiting, most celebrities tend to stick to the 5-star hotels, or private accommodation – such as the multi-million pound villa that Cliff Richard owns on the island – so unfortunately, unless you have a celebrity budget, it’s unlikely that you’ll find yourself spending time with the celebs by the pool.

However, as there are no private beaches in Barbados and a great many trendy bars, clubs and restaurants you’ll still have a chance to spot a couple of celebrities even if you aren’t sharing a hotel. You can also catch celebs out on the ocean blue on jet skis and yachts, so if you’re on a mission to see at least one, you could try some of the watersports on offer. Music mogul Simon Cowell has often been pictured relaxing on a jet-ski in the area.

However, even if you don’t spot a celebrity on your travels in Barbados, you could still allow yourself to feel like one when you’re there. You can take a sunset or evening boat trip and float beneath a blanket of stars like you’re in a Hollywood film. There are also some great dinner shows on offer, such as the Bajan Roots and Rhythms show if you want to add a touch of glamour to your trip. You can even just enjoy a spot of Caribbean cuisine in one of the local restaurants, the locals are especially friendly, and they’re sure to give you the VIP treatment on a Barbados holiday even if they’ve never seen you before in your life.
