When it comes to choosing the perfect outfit, there are usually at least a loose set of rules you can follow that will ensure you show up looking right. After all, you’re hardly going to wear jeans and a t-shirt to a wedding, are you? Nor are you going to wear your best work suit to a cinema trip with your friends. Different outfits go with different occasions and, generally, it’s easy enough to know what sort of outfit you should be wearing under which circumstance.

So, considering the specifics – say you’ve got a wedding or a party coming up – you know that casual clothes are out of the question but is there a difference in what you might wear to either of these occasions? The answer for some people is no, but for others a resounding yes. The wedding is certainly the most formal of the two, therefore it requires the most formal outfit. For men, a nice suit with perhaps a bowtie instead of a normal tie would be appropriate. Women tend to find that a good dress with accessories and a hat, or hair that has been done up, suits them best for these types of ceremonies. For parties, however, it depends on the event, but if it’s a smart affair then, once again, black tie is perfect for men. For women, the dress differs from the wedding dress significantly – formal eveningwear tends to make way for lavish frocks and ball gowns, which is the perfect opportunity to show off your own individual style and provides the chance to get pampered at the hair salon while having your up-do perfected.

Not every party is a major dressing up affair, though, and there’s plenty of occasions where slightly less formal outfits can be worn. Many parties that your friends host offer the perfect opportunity to get dressed up nicely without going the whole hog, and there’s something to be said about getting dolled up for a dinner party with your nearest and dearest. Still, it’s possible to get away with even items like jeans and t-shirts at these types of gatherings. If you know you’re going to be dressing casual but would still like to look smart, accessorising can be the perfect way to spruce up your appearance without dressing up too much. A nice necklace, earrings and the perfect make up can make all the difference.

Finding the right occasion wear can be difficult, but once you’re all dressed up you can forget about it and just focus on having a good time.
