We may all be in need of a holiday more than ever before, but ironically it is in these cash strapped times that it becomes harder than ever to get one. However, it doesn’t mean that taking a holiday is impossible. You just have to know how to make it happen.

There are plenty of cheaper travel deals available, even at the moment. In fact, with lots of holiday companies and airlines looking to boost their order books, it makes sense that there are more competitive deals around. The key is to think strategically and not opt for the usual holiday you would take. By thinking off the beaten track you could have new experiences and enjoy spending less as well.

Step one is to be more open to the various deals that are available. For example if you normally take two weeks away, why not consider looking for last minute seven night deals instead? You could also focus on going somewhere different as opposed to your usual destination. City breaks are incredibly popular; many of the major cities in Europe are very close to home and they all have stories to tell.

One key destination you may wish to consider is Amsterdam. This gives you the chance to spend a long weekend in a foreign country, discovering all that it has to offer. Some European cities have the advantage that you can get to them by train as well, instead of paying the high prices of flights. It also means less hassle when travelling.

Another advantage of visiting somewhere like Amsterdam is that you have plenty of things to see and do within a fairly small area. This cuts down on travel costs while you are there. You also have plenty to do that won’t cost you any additional cash, such as wandering around the canals and exploring the streets of the city itself.

Make sure you look in all kinds of places to find the latest deals too. Newspapers, the internet, travel agents – all of these methods are perfectly valid, and using them all will enable you to come up with the best possible deal. Sometimes you will find late deals that offer better value for money, but in any event you may find this kind of weekend away is a better option than a much longer and more expensive holiday anyway.

It’s obvious that we all need a holiday from time to time. But there are always ways and means to get something that doesn’t cost the earth. Amsterdam travel deals are one of the best examples of cutting costs without cutting corners on your getaways each year.
