In a struggling economy where competition is tough, it can be even more crucial to find ways to effectively promote your company and grow your brand without spending more than you desire from your marketing budget. Fortunately, the explosive growth of the internet has opened up many new ways of promotion at comparatively little cost that can be highly effective at driving traffic to your websites and making sales.

If you already have a well-established brand, you will be in the best position to start spreading yourself further and making your brand even more well-known. If, however, you're a new start-up or you've recently undergone revision of your branding and image, now is the time to get your brand out there with the aim of becoming recognisable and familiar.

Making your brand stand out is therefore vital if you hope to draw the attention of potential customers, clients and partners. If you have a dedicated branding or marketing department, or you're willing to hire a consultancy firm for their expertise, you should find you arrive at a company name, logo and slogan that you're satisfied with in a relatively short space of time. These designs should be eye-catching, memorable and distinctive, not to mention highly differentiated from those of your competitors operating in the same field.

Once you've settled on your branding, it's time to get your name out there, and there are many low-cost ways of achieving this. Paying exorbitant prices for billboards or television marketing campaigns can be effective for larger companies, but typically deliver a very low rate of return compared to the money spent, so you should only consider these strategies if you have a large amount of money spare in your marketing budget.

Internet advertising is cheaper and can sometimes be more effective, especially if you take time to carefully select the websites on which your ads will appear, to ensure they reach people who are more likely to click through to your company websites. Social networking sites are visited by millions of people every day, and can be a great place to get your brand seen and established.

Your marketing activities don't have to be restricted to the internet though, as there are still many, more traditional promotional strategies in the 'real' world that can offer good value. These include branded promotional products to get your brand out on the streets and into peoples' homes - everything from branded T-shirts to company mugs and printed plastic bags.
