In Britain, dressing for the summer can be a tricky affair. With the unpredictability of British weather being ever present, knowing how to stay suitably dressed, yet fashionable if the weather changes without notice can be an issue faced by many. However, there is one element to summer that provides respite from the unpredictable weather and that's digging our summer clothes out of the wardrobe - or, better yet, buying new ones. Here are a few trends for women to look out for in summer 2011.
Most fashion-conscious women will already have noticed that maxi dresses have become a summer staple over the last few years. 2011 is no different, with these casual ankle-length items still a prominent feature on the high street and in designer boutiques. Watch out for the sheer maxi dress this year which, when worn with the right undergarments, gives the traditional patterned maxi dress a run for its money.
Longer lengths are also making a comeback in the realm of skirt design, with the long-preferred mini being cast aside in favour of high-waisted skirts with hems that drop below the knee. These mid-length skirts look particularly graceful in summer when paired with strappy sandals and a chiffon blouse, or high-heeled pumps and a tailored shirt for an office environment. However, while bold prints may be the way to go with summer dresses, mid-length skirts in 2011 look best in stripes or block colours. Stripes and colour blocking are key looks this summer, as is head-to-toe white, and skirts provide a great way to capitalise on these trends.
