Natural gas has been a core source of fuel for many generations, and has remained one of the most valuable fossil fuels even with the rise of alternative energy sources such as nuclear power and solar energy. Although the gas market itself is no stranger to price fluctuations, shortages and other problems, gas is being named the most effective solution to the UK's energy crisis.

Many power stations across the country are set to close within the next 10 to 15 years, which could prove to be very bad news for heavy electricity users, such as businesses, if they find themselves without a local supplier for their energy needs. This gap is expected to be filled with gas-fired generators however, ensuring that businesses won't go bust just because electrical power is proving prohibitively expensive and difficult to obtain.

Of course, a gas supply is one thing - a reliable gas supplier is quite another. That's why industry regulators are aiming to create a fair market in which gas is affordable for everyone who needs it, from enterprises to households. The deregulation of the gas market is a factor in its favour when it comes to lowering prices, as there are now numerous suppliers striving to lure customers by offering cheaper tariffs and more special offers than their competitors.

Not only is natural gas a cheaper and more readily available option than other fuel sources such as coal, but its effects on the environment are also less severe. Modern gas plants produce between 50 and 70 per cent less carbon dioxide emissions than coal plants, while tapping the North Sea for its vast gas and oil reserves could drive major employment growth in the UK as well as boost the domestic economy, as less money would be heading to overseas providers.

Gas is not an entirely future-safe energy source, with around 60 per cent of the UK's reserves still expected to come from overseas by 2020, but as a cost-effective and reliable solution to Britain's energy crisis, business gas could be the best way forward for your company. Comparing energy prices online from the major suppliers could be the most effective way to find the lowest prices available for your company, while instigating energy-saving operations throughout all departments of your business could help reduce your gas and electricity bills and free up more money to invest back into the business itself.
